Humble Beginnings

The Beginnings
Twenty years ago, Victor Sr. had an idea to improve the wellbeing of his family while continuing his day job as a truck driver. Drawing on his sales experience from Leon, Guanajuato, his original home, he decided to start selling mattresses to close friends and family. There was intense motivation to provide for his three children with another on the way, and like many other immigrants, had limited options on how to make more money. He had connections thanks to his line of work, and began to purchase one or two mattresses whenever he had orders or to stock some items in case someone called over the weekend. From keeping them in his garage at home, to renting out a storage unit, his client base slowly grew and he knew he needed help if this work was going to continue. The little kids that once ran around wildly now understood the business, and could run most portions of it themselves. It wasn't unusual for new client to be helped out by a 19 year old Sandra, or even a 16 year old Victor Jr.

The First Location

In early January of 2018, Victor Sr received a call from a friend. Mr Shori, a gentleman with decades in the mattress industry, had decided it was time to retire and wanted to sell Victor Sr his business located at Traders Village. The call came at an interesting time, with Victor Jr off at college and his day job slowing down tremendously. Nonetheless, Victor Sr and Jr pulled together the funds and purchased the location with faith and the expectation that hard work was on its way. We had no idea.

Expansion

Slowly but surely, we began to expand the location. More clients means more stock right? King mattresses, queen mattresses, twin mattresses; the people shopped with us because we gave them the best deals! More and more referrals started coming, and before long we knew we needed to introduce furniture and expand our services. Bunk beds and twin beds got introduced, and within the year we had cleared some space for a small furniture showroom limited to beds and bunk beds. Two years into business, another opportunity arose and we opened a brink and mortar location based out of Arlington. Now, we've decided to enter the digital space and offer our services to even more people, from the comfort of their home.

To this day, many of our original clients from years ago still shop with us, and we have the privilege to call them friends. They've gotten to see the family grow, and we hope those same people will get to see the business grow. What is next for the Del Rey Family? We're not sure, but one thing is certain. The family wants to open a store where everything originated in Oak Cliff. We want to provide value to all the communities we are apart of, not take from them. So we will keep working at it. Todo a su tiempo, no?
